This term we are learning about The Polar Regions
In terms 1 and 2, Eagle class will be taking an adventure through the frozen lands of The Arctic and Antarctica. They will learn about the geographical features of the regions, and also ways in which animals and people adapt to life in the areas that are habitable, and the importance of accessing natural resources.
The frozen lands are changing daily, and global warming has an on-going impact on these regions, their fragile biomes and their inhabitants. The Polar Regions are vital to the future of our planet, so we will consider environmental change and ways that we can work to protect the world around us for the future.
To enhance our learning, we are taking part in a Virtual Schools Polar Day, run by the organisation Wicked Weather Watch. This will be a fully immersive day, with a chance to learn about the Polar Regions from experts who know the regions in detail, and can call on first-hand expereinces to inform and challenge our thinking. The day will cover many aspects of the curriculum including geography, science, maths and english.
These studies will foster curiosity and challenge the class to consider our enquiry question, 'Why are the Polar Regions important to the future of our planet?'.
