A New School Year!

We are very much looking forward to welcoming all the children back to school next week!

2019/20 proved to be a very strange and difficult year for everyone and the challenge of the unprecedented school closures put everyone under huge pressure. I am very proud of how our school community pulled together and supported each other as best we could under these very difficult circumstances. I know how hard parents have had to work, juggling work commitments while supporting the children's home learning. I am also very proud of all our wonderful staff for working so hard and keeping the school open for the children of key workers. I was very pleased that we were able to re-open to some year groups in June and July, and that we were able to organise some very special events for our Year 6 pupils before they left us. The pizza baking fire engine was very popular with the children and the staff!

Of course, what we all want is for life to get back to normal! While we have to accept that things will be a little different for some time yet, we are all very excited to be welcoming the children back to school next week. This is  the start of the return to normality for the children and a really positive step to take!

So, polish the shoes, wash the school uniforms, and try to get the children into bed at a reasonable time! We can't wait to see you all next week!

Mrs Cook

Well done everyone!

  • Well done to the boys who took part in the football tournament at Beacon Academy. There were fourteen teams involved in the tournament and we came joint 3rd! An amazing achievement as we were playing against schools that are far bigger than High Hurstwood. Well done to all the boys for their super performances and great sportmanship!
  • A huge well done to our Key Stage 2 Cross Country Team! They represented us in the Beacon Academy Small Schools event and came 2nd. Seven children have been selected by Beacon to take part in the next stage of this event which is taking place on Wednesday 16th October. I shall update you on how they get on next week. I am sure they will 'do us proud'!
  • Well done to all our new Reception children. They have settled so well into school already! Thank you to our Year 6 Buddies for helping the new children at break times and lunchtimes. Firm friendships have been made already!
  • Well done to all the children who completed the school holiday challenges. There were an amazing number of photos sent in of natural scupltures. Please do come and look at the display in school. We also received a record number of reading challenge photos! It was very difficult to choose who to give the prize to. After much deliberation I gave out 12 prizes, and every child who sent in an entry received a bookmark. Do come in and look at the display of all the photos (on the board outside of Leopard Class). Thank you to all the parents and carers who supported the children to complete all nine of the holiday tasks. This really helped to get the children off to a good start at the beginning of another school year.
