Welcome to Panda Class!

We are Reception (Year R), where most children begin their adventure at High Hurstwood Primary School, and this is our lovely learning environment:

Our Teachers:

Mrs Prescott (Monday/Tuesday) and Mrs Newth (Wednesday - Friday)

Mrs Bath (mornings) and Miss Chambers (afternoons) are our fab TAs and they are here all week!

What we are learning about this term...

Cold and Hot

This term we will be making a start to our world adventures by learning about the cold and engaging in lots of role play as explorers in and around our class igloo. The children are going to have a fantastic time learning about cold places and animals and will be looking at the stories of ‘Penguin Small’ and ‘Lost and Found’. We will also be looking at non-fiction texts and learning about cold countries and where in the world they are. We also will be developing our scientific thinking through engaging in some ice experiments.

Moving into Term 4, the focus of our world learning will shift to ‘hot’. We will be learning about African animals and cultures, comparing houses and homes around the world and focusing our literacy around the ‘Handa’s Surprise’ texts. We will tie up our ‘hot’ and ‘cold’ topics with a trip to Drusilla's. If you have any items or books that you think might be relevant to our topics, please do send them in (named!) with your child to share with the class on our topic table.
