Welcome to Leopard Class!

We are Year 1 & 2 children and this is our fabulous classroom:

Our teachers are:

What we are learning about this term...

This term our learning journey is

Fire!  Fire!

During Terms 3 and 4 we will be learning all about the Great Fire of London.  We will be thinking about where when the fire was and why it started.  We will be reading some of the diaries from Samuel Pepys to understand exactly what happened during the days of the fire and how London was rebuilt afterwards.  Our science lessons will be focused on looking at the properties of different materials and considering which materials would be best to use to build houses.  We can then use this knowledge to help us understand of why the Great Fire of London spread so quickly.

In Art and DT we will be researching how timber-framed houses were built.   We will then design and create our own model houses which will then be used to make a scene of London at the time of the Great Fire.  We will also be producing artwork using charcoal and making silhouettes of the London skyline.

In addition to this we will be comparing the fire fighting equipment used today with the equipment used in the Fire of London.  We hope to have a special visit from the Fire Service to help us understand fire safety and we will also be discussing and comparing recent fires in other parts of the world.

For High Hurstwood Parents and children, please log in to your dB Primary account for further information and home learning tasks.
